Some of the things we do ...
ST. ANSGAR PROJECTS
2008 Overseas Projects
CLWR (Canadian Lutheran World Relief) We Care Bags - in the spring our congregation filled 50 cloth bags with various school, hygiene, children, and sewing items to be sent to mothers and children in refugee camps.
CLWR Mission Wells - during 2007 our congregation raised funds for the whole year to build wells in Mozambigue, Africa and then in India. Members of the congregation raised $12,500 and an additional amount of $1,000 was received from a friend of St. Ansgar who was enthused by the project. The total donations were $13,500, enough to fund 9 wells and provide clean water and hope for a better life to over 2,000 children and adults.
Northwest London Resource Centre's Emergency Food Cupboard
The first Sunday each month is designated Food Bank month and members of the congregation are invited to bring a non-perishable item for donation to the Food Bank. The closest depot is the Northwest London Resource Centre depot in Sherwood Forest Mall and we are honoured to remember the community around St. Ansgar in this way.
Social Action by Prayer
Each month our Social Action Committee picks an area, situation or project either close to our church or as far away as another country. Our newsletter and bulletins give us information on the area or project and then includes a prayer. Each Sunday we pray for that project or the people in that area and are encouraged to remember them in our home prayers. Join us in praying for those in need, close or far away.
London 37th Scout Group
St. Ansgar Church is the proud sponsor of the 37th Scout Group, who hold meetings in our building. All co-ed groups are represented from Cubs and Beavers to Scouts and Rovers and ages 5 to 26. Two times a year, the group worships with us at a service where they participate and share their enthusiasm for learning and earning badges with us. If you have a child who would like to be part of the scouting experience, contact our office for information on whom to call.
Vacation Bible School
The last two summers, St. Ansgar has been blessed to have angels in their midst running a Vacation Bible School for children of the congregation and the surrounding area. Crafts, songs, Bible themes and lots of laughter have resounded around the church building each morning for a week. This past summer a huge frog from McDonald House visited for the week and was a big hit and an instant friend. Watch our newsletter next summer for a possible third summer week.
CHURCH GROUPS
Sunday Church School
We invite you to join our group of children and youth from 4 to 12 years of age to learn about Jesus and his love. Classes are held during the church service after the gospel lesson and finishing at the same time as the worship service ends. Families are invited to commune together on commuion Sundays so the children come back to the service early on those Sundays. The ciriculum includes Bible reading, songs, crafts and discussion.
SLICKs and WALBY
Our youth group, who are named the SLICKs (Spiritually Led in Christ Kids) do not have a regular meeting time but meet as part of a larger group called WALBY (Worshipping Anglican and Lutheran Boisterous Youth). With youth from Zurich, Exeter, Woodstock and the other Lutheran and Anglican churches in London, events focusing on being in "Mission for Others" is enjoyed by young people and leaders. Join us in visiting other congregations and meeting partners.
Evangelical Lutheran Women Group (ELW)
Our church is fortunate to have a dedicated group of women who meet on a regular basis for Bible study, stewardship, and fellowship. They fund raise for items needed in our church family and building, provide social events that build connections to each other that last years, and give time, talents and treasurers to the Synod and National organizations. One of their events is the sewing of Kathy Kaps for cancer patients - see the newsletter for dates if happening this month. One of their programs is the Prayer Partner program which lets the women of our church family pray for each other during the year and have a "surprise - it was me praying for you" tea each November. We welcome new members to the Prayer Partner program each year.
